TBE 3x3

Basketball League

The Basketball Experience (TBE) is proud and excited to launch our new 3x3 basketball league - TBE 3x3!

3x3 Basketball is an exciting and growing version of basketball that has recently been accepted as an official Olympic competition, meaning the opportunities for players in the 3x3 realm are only just beginning to reveal themselves!

Designed to enhance player development through skill focused sessions and competitive gameplay, the TBE 3x3 league follows the official FIBA 3x3 rules for each age group and offers a unique blend of training and competition that sets it apart from conventional leagues.

TBE 3x3 Review

As a parent, I've seen firsthand the incredible benefits of 3 on 3 basketball for my son. This format has significantly enhanced his offensive awareness and creative playmaking skills. The smaller team size means each player gets more touches on the ball, which translates into smarter decisions and better plays.

In 3 on 3, there's less room for hiding; every player must be actively involved, leading to more passing and a more dynamic offense. This increased involvement helps players develop a deeper understanding of the game, which is invaluable when transitioning to traditional 5 on 5 basketball.

Moreover, 3 on 3 basketball fosters strong team chemistry and friendships. The close-knit nature of the game builds deep trust among teammates and improves on-court communication. These bonds and communication skills are essential for success in both 3 on 3 and 5 on 5 formats.

Overall, 3 on 3 basketball has been a fantastic way for my son to improve his skills, build lasting friendships, and enjoy the game even more. The TBE 3x3 league, in particular, has provided an excellent platform for young athletes to develop and showcase their talents in a supportive and competitive environment. - Shawn Schuler

Benefits of 3x3 Basketball

More Play Time

With smaller team sizes, players get significantly more play time than conventional 5x5!

Leadership Development

With no dedicated coaches controlling each team, players will learn to become leaders on the court, working with teammates and problem solving together, developing valuable life skills.

Low Time Commitment

With more games being played in a shorter span, leagues only run for 8-weeks at a time, with only 1 night occupied for both practices and games, perfect for families with busy schedules.

More Touches

With less players on the court at one time, players get significantly more touches with the basketball, and are involved in the action much more frequently than conventional 5x5.

With less energy required to play on a half court, studies show 3x3 basketball has much more passing, dribble drives, and long distance shots than 5x5, making for higher quality basketball.

Quality of Play
Different Positions/
Roles

3x3 Basketball allows players to play more freely, with more flexibility to try different positions than they might usually play. Often, players in 5x5 basketball get stuck playing the same position and role, with no opportunities to try other positions.

Greater Athletic
Development

Studies show that the smaller play area, along with a shorter shot clock results in players performing more high speed inertial movements, more jumping movements, and greater distance covered at high speed thresholds, while maintaining a similar cardiovascular response, all resulting in greater athletic development.

League Structure - Details

TBE Development Sessions

Each weekly event begins with a 30 minute TBE session.
This session will be split into 2 parts:

- Individual Skill Development: 15 Minutes will be dedicated to enhancing individual skills, similar to what we teach in our standard 8-Week skill programs.
- 3x3 Gameplay Training: 15 Minutes will be focused on teaching rules and strategies of 3x3 basketball, helping players be successful on the court.

Game Format

Following the skill sessions, teams will play three 10-minute games, adhering to FIBA 3x3 rules for their particular age group and division. Game/Shot clock will stop during dead ball situations.
Coaching Approach: Players do not want to be coached constantly, and want the freedom to play different positions, and experiment with new skills. With that in mind, rather than having official coaches, players will learn through the structured TBE sessions at the beginning of each event, promoting peer learning and self-coaching within the group, giving players the freedom and flexibility to enjoy the game, while still receiving proper direction.

Team Communication

Each team will have a representative parent to facilitate communication with the league officials.
Most communication regarding the league or your team will also be done with every parent through emails.

Scorekeeping & Stats

Scores will be kept and officially recorded with league officials, but will not be publicly posted (only wins and losses posted).

Detailed stats will not be tracked at this time, but stat tracking will be introduced in the future.

Support

Official refing will be provided, with a single ref per game. TBE Coaches will manage score sheets after the sessions. We may require assistance from parents or friends for timekeeping early on, as the league grows and develops.

To ensure a competitive and enjoyable experience, each division requires a minimum of six teams to run.
